While passing by a school, road, stadium or an airport, you’ll often find those named after some people. It’s a no brainer for you that these people are famous in some way.

But, who are they actually?

Let us find out.

Kemal Ataturk Avenue

This is the main road connection connecting Kakoli and Gulshan-2 circle.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was the first president of Turkey. His surname Ataturk means the Father of the Turks. After the fall Ottoman rule, he brought reforms to make Turkey more secular and westernised.

Manik Miah Avenue

The main road that goes past the front side of Parliament.

Manik Miah is a legend in Bangladesh’s journalism. He showed his wonderful power with his pen while working with Daily Ittefaq newspaper.

Being a fierce critic of the discrimination by the Pakistan government, he inspired the people with writing his column in the paper. He used to write about the injustices done by the then government.

With his intense writing, he put the Pakistan government under tremendous pressure that they had to arrest him multiple times.

Suhrawardy Uddan

Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy was a renowned politician.

In British India, Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy served as the prime minister of undivided Bengal. Our great Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman always respected him as his political mentor.

He was also the 5th Prime minister of Pakistan.

Sher-e-Bangla Stadium

Sher-e-Bangla means the tiger of the Bengal.

But, who was this Sher-e-Bangla?

It was AK Fazlul Haq- a renowned Bengali politician who worked with his contemporaries like Jinnah, Suhrawardy, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for a Muslim-majority independent Pakistan.

In his political career, he had got many feathers on his cap.

Before partition, both Bangladesh and West Bengal were under the United Bengal. In 1937, he was the Prime Minister of that United Bengal.

After Partition, he became the Chief Minister of former East Pakistan. The highest position he held in Pakistan was the Home ministership.

Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport

Hazrat Shahjalal was a very renowned Sufi saint who came to Bengal and then settled here to spread Islam in the region.

Viqarunnisa noon school and college

She was a social worker who did many charitable works in Pakistan throughout her life. From 1957 to 1958, she was the first lady of Pakistan.
